Jarocin is a medium-sized town located in central Poland, in Wielkopolska voivodeship, with a population of just over 26,000. Jarocin is more than 70 kilometers from the region's capital, Poznan. Other important urban centers in the vicinity are: Konin, Kalisz, Pleszew, Krotoszyn, Śrem, Września, Leszno, Rawicz and Ostrów Wielkopolski.
For many, the first association with the place is the Jarocin Festival, the legendary rock and alternative music festival. Its first edition was held in 1970, and its greatest heyday was in the '80s. The festival was at one time a meeting place for the unruly, who wanted to demonstrate their veto of communist censorship through music. The city itself is, of course, much older than the famous music event. The first historical mention of the city dates back to the 13th century, but archaeologists' excavations indicate that people were already living in the area 5,000 years ago. However, let's go back to the Middle Ages. The town was granted by Prince Boleslaw the Pious of Greater Poland to Comes Janek of Zarembas. In the first centuries of its existence, Jarocin was a thriving craft and trade center - merchant routes running between Poznan and Kalisz and Torun and Wroclaw crossed here.
What attractions does Jarocin have to offer its visitors? Topping the list in this category is the town hall, an arcaded building erected at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries and later rebuilt several times. The building is located in the heart of Jarocin's market square. It is the city's main square, with townhouses dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries. At the market square, in the Tenement House of Culture, is the local Tourist Information Point - the place from which it will be best to start exploring Jarocin. The central square is also a cluster of the best restaurants and cafes. Other historical attractions of the town include: Skarbczyk, St. Martin's Church, Christ the King Church, St. George's post-evangelical church and the ruins of St. Spirit Hospital Church.
Families with children are recommended to visit Radolinski Park first, where there is an amphitheater, a regional museum in the Radolinski Palace, walking paths and small bodies of water. For those thirsty for water frenzy, an aquapark located near the park opens its doors. Robotics courses for children run by Twój Robot company are also an interesting way to spend time creatively with children. On the other hand, fans of active recreation can enjoy the Bajkoland playroom.
