
Jawor is a city in Poland, Lower Silesia Province, Jawor County, historically in Lower Silesia. From 1975 to 1998 the town belonged administratively to Legnica province. Jawor is located on the Nysa Szalona, Jawornik and Paszówka rivers, in the central part of Lower Silesia, on the Jawor Plain, part of the Chojnowska Plain. The town takes its name from the Polish name of the sycamore tree (Latin: Acer pseudoplatanus), which is a tree widespread in the Sudetenland.
Among the sights of Jawor is the Church of Peace. Located in the town of Jawor, this wooden Protestant church with a half-timbered structure is a historic religious building built under the agreements of the Peace of Westphalia concluded in 1648 and ending the Thirty Years' War. Every year from May to September, Peace Concerts are organized in Jawor. They are held in the historic interiors of the Church of Peace. Chamber music performed by artists from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, as well as the place where the concerts are held, create a special atmosphere and provide an unforgettable experience. A total of 67 concerts have already been held at the Jawor church, including 29 concerts performed by artists from abroad. So far, the following artists have performed: Choir Poznanskie Słowiki under the direction of Stefan Stuligrosz, Windsbacher Knabenchor, Choir of the University of Wroclaw "Gaudium", Chamber Orchestra "Leopoldinum", Amadeus Orchestra under the direction of Agnieszka Duczmal, Sudecka Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Spirituals Singers Band, Wilanów Quartet, Camerata Cracovia, Folk Ensemble "Sierra Manta", Brandenburgischer Kammerchor, Ledl Jazz Quintet and many others.
Another of these is the Regional Museum in Jawor. The institution was established in 1929 as the Heimatmuseum Jauer. After World War II, it resumed operations rather quickly, as early as 1949. The following permanent exhibitions are currently on display: "Jawor Land in Prehistory", "Old Crafts" and "Jawor Gingerbread", "Treasure from Bremen", "Crossing the Impossible", "Rifles are roaring and scabbards are ringing", "Lower Silesian Chamber", "Treasury of the Sudetenland", "Gallery of Silesian Sacred Art". Since June 2013, as part of the museum exhibition, it is possible to visit the tower of the Piast Castle in Jawor, from where you can admire the panorama of the city and the surrounding area.
