
Jelenia G ora is a city located in the northern part of the Jeleniogórska Basin. The city is surrounded by the Izera Mountains and the Izera Foothills to the west, the Kaczawskie Mountains to the north, the Janowickie Ore Mountains to the east, and the Karkonosze Mountains to the south. The city center is located about 1 km east of the confluence of the Beaver River and the Kamienna River.
One of the monuments included in the list of the National Heritage Institute is the Basilica of St. Erasmus and St. Pankracy. It is an oriented, three-nave, four-bay Gothic basilica first mentioned in 1303 after its fire, rebuilt as late as the 14th century, rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries. The oldest and most important church in the city. A typical example of a Gothic church with ogival door and window frames, cross-ribbed vaulting and buttresses.
Chojnik Castle, or rather its ruins, is also a place worth visiting. It is located near Jelenia Gora-Sobieszów, on top of Chojnik Mountain in the Karkonosze Mountains. The mountain rises to a height of 627 meters above sea level, and on its southeastern side there is a 150-meter cliff dropping down to the so-called Hell Valley. The stronghold is located within a strict protection area, which is part of the Karkonosze National Park. Chojnik Castle consists of a lower castle surrounded by fortifications. A cylindrical tower rises on the northern side, and a shell tower in the northeastern corner. Along the curtain walls are residential and outbuildings. A gate connects it to the middle castle. In its center is a pillory with a height of 3.9 meters. The remains of the crew's residential building, the former kitchen, the water cistern and the so-called "courtroom" are visible. Another gate connects the middle castle with the upper castle. On it you can see the remains of the late Gothic castle chapel, the palace and the entrance to the tower. It can be reached by hiking trails, the red one to Sobieszow via Glazowisko, the black one to Sobieszow and Upper Podgórzyn and the yellow one via Żelazny Mostek to Lower Podgórzyn.
Another place worth visiting is the Karkonosze National Park. A national park with an area of 5951.42 hectares in Lower Silesia province near the state border with the Czech Republic, established on January 16, 1959. The Park's lagging area is 13,093 ha. Admission to the KPN area is paid. The park has 112 km of hiking trails, there are also ski trails, including 17 km of ski slopes. Some of the hiking trails have been made available for cyclists. Two cable cars ("Szrenica" and "Kopa") lead to the peaks, while 10 ski lifts operate in winter.
