
Nisko is a small town in Podkarpackie Voivodeship, located on the San River and Sandomierska Forest, near Stalowa Wola, Sandomierz and Janow Lubelski.
Nisko and its vicinity is a very attractive area for archaeologists, so far about 150 sites with traces of prehistoric cultures have been recognized here. Archaeological research has shown that settlement in the area dates back much earlier than 1439, when the first written mention of Nisk appeared. Discoveries on the so-called "Skrzynska Mountain" date back to the Neolithic Age.
Although Nisk is a small town, it has quite a lot to offer.
What is worth seeing in Nisk and the surrounding area?
Most of the monuments of material culture in the area date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Among the most interesting are:
- Manor and park complex in Zarzecz near Nisk, with a 19th-century classicist manor house, whose owners at the beginning of the 20th century were the Hofmokl - Ostrowski family. Here for some time stayed the well-known translator and poet of Young Poland, Bronislawa Ostrowska née Brzezicka (1881 -1928), author of poetry "Opals", "Sacrificial Veils", "To Angels of Sound", "Ring of Life" and prose "The Book of Tomorrow", "In an Old Mirror", "Meditations". These works contain many descriptions of Užupis and the surrounding area. The poet's daughter, Halina Ostrowska- Grabska, describes these sites in her book titled. "Bric a brac".
- The parish church, rectory and belfry in Raclawice - objects of the oldest parish in the area, dedicated to Bishop Stanislaw, erected between 1252 and 1288. Next to the rectory is a huge small-leaved linden tree, a monument of nature, with a trunk circumference exceeding 6 meters.
- Manor park in Raclawice - Waldekowka with nature monuments: common maple and pedunculate oak.
- Chapel in Nisk - Warcholy built in 1884 as a chapel on the grounds of the summer residence of Marie and Olivier Count Ressëquier.
- Chapel in Nisk - Malce from 1910, now part of the parish church of the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Poland.
- The former Sopot farmstead in Nisk - Malce, which features a statue of the Holy Family founded by the Ressëquiers in 1887, recently extensively renovated thanks to the efforts of the Malce community.
- Parsonage and parish church in Nisk built at the turn of the 20th century. Since October 3, 1998, the church has been elevated to the dignity of the Sanctuary of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
- The statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Nisk erected in 1907 by Marie and Olivier Count Ressëguier, on the occasion of the dedication of the Nisko estate to the Divine Heart.
- Raclawice Parish Cemetery. A local necropolis with many graves from the 19th century, including those of insurgents from the period of Partition Poland. One of them is the grave of Jan Gisges Gawronski (1837 - 1890) buried here, grandfather of the well-known writer and poet Jan Maria Gisges born in Nisk (1914 1983). He is the author of, among others, the novels "Thistles," "The Fall," "The Accursed," "Memory of the Heart," "Borelowski," "Lasowiacy," "Birds, Birds," as well as the poetry "First Love," "Season of Adolescence," "Driving Forward," and "Premonition." Almost in each of these books the writer referred to the time when he was in these pages. Nisko and its surroundings are very interesting places to visit.
