Local restaurants serve mainly Polish cuisine and the best-loved dishes from other parts of the world. It is not a typical tourist destination, but the city has several interesting attractions. Olesno is full of monuments, some unusual and even unique in Poland. So what is worth seeing here?
Olesno's main square is surrounded by townhouses from the 19th and 20th centuries. There is also a neoclassical town hall from the early 19th century, erected on the site of the previous town hall. Its current appearance is the result of reconstruction after the destruction of World War II. Olesno's market square also features a Marian Column from 1697 and an 18th-century statue of Jan Nepomucen.
The Olesno Regional Museum named after Jan Nikodem Jaron, a poet and playwright, participant in the Third Silesian Uprising who took part in the liberation of Olesno, presents exhibitions on the city and its surroundings. There are archaeological, historical, as well as forestry and hunting exhibitions.
The first mention of St. Michael's Church dates back to the beginning of the 13th century, making it the oldest church in the city. It was built in the Gothic style, but after numerous reconstructions and restorations, features of Baroque decor dominate. Its interiors hide a 17th-century main altar and side altars from the 18th century, as well as a Baroque pulpit and baptismal font.
This temple is located on the trail of wooden sacral buildings of Opole province. It was built in 1518 around an old pine tree, the top and branches of which were cut off. Fragments of its trunk can still be seen in the main altar. In the 17th century, star-shaped chapels were added to the nave, so that when seen from above the church resembles a monstrance or five-petalled rose, which is related to the old name of the village - Rosenberg. Inside, in addition to the main altar and the altars in the chapels, it is worth noting the late Gothic statue of St. Anne of Solitude.
Fragments of the medieval city walls that once surrounded Olesno have been preserved at Lompa Street. They were mostly dismantled in the 18th century. They are believed to have been erected with the end of the 14th century on the initiative of the Princes of Niemodlin. At that time they surrounded the town with a circle, which could be accessed through two gates - from the south through the Opole gate and from the north through the Gorzowska gate. The fragment of the fortifications, which has survived to this day, is 15 meters long and almost 4 meters high.
This park is located a short distance from Olesno's market square. It features educational boards on the topics of ecology and biodiversity, as well as benches and chess tables.
This center was built around a small lake in Stary Olesno in the Bory Stobrawskie region. Its grounds include beaches, a volleyball court, a playground, a mini-golf course and a restaurant open all year. The most popular attraction here, however, is the wreck of a Soviet Antonov An-24 aircraft set up on an islet in the middle of the lake, to which a wooden bridge leads. Less than 3 kilometers from Anpol is the "Seven Springs in Olesno", a forest pond with a miraculous spring, whose water is said to have healing properties. You can get here by following the Way of the Cross from St. Anne's Sanctuary.
