Ozimek is a small town in Opolskie Voivodeship located about 21 kilometers east of Opole on the Mała Panew River, a right tributary of the Oder. It is inhabited by less than 9,000 residents. Ozimek is located on the Opole Plain, on the border of the Opole Plain and the Silesian Upland near the Turawa Lakes complex.
Its history is long - settlement in the areas adjacent to the Mała Panew River already existed in the Neolithic. Permanent settlements, on the other hand, began to appear in the Middle Ages. On the Oder River and its tributaries, where there were also many dense forests, there were ideal conditions for the development of metallurgy - and it is primarily with the metallurgy that Ozimek's history is connected.
What the city can surprise you with are original monuments, practically unheard of elsewhere. Being in the vicinity, it is worth stopping here at least for a while.
This bridge over the Mała Panew River is the oldest iron suspension bridge in Europe. It dates back to 1827 and is made entirely of iron - it is the only bridge of its kind to have survived to this day. It was designed by inspector Karl Schottelius and made by the local Malapanew Steelworks. About 60 tons of cast iron and 14 tons of steel were used in its construction.
The building is listed as a Monument of History along with just over a hundred other monuments of special significance to Poland. It can also be seen on Ozimek's coat of arms. Currently, it is only accessible to pedestrian traffic and is the town's biggest attraction. It looks beautiful both during the day and at night, when it is climatically illuminated.
The museum is located on Hutnicza Street, not far from the Malapanew Ironworks, founded in the mid-18th century by the will of Frederick II, the Prussian ruler, whose main products were just cast-iron bridges. Other cast-iron objects can also be seen in the museum, including crucifixes, sculptures, tools, pots and dishes or an exhibition of weapons.
The Evangelical-Augsburg Church of St. John the Baptist represents Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic styles. It dates back to 1821, and its history is marked by repeated destruction, looting and fires. The interior of the temple, such as the altar, pulpit and choir pillars, was cast in an Ozima ironworks. The temple owes its present shape to its reconstruction after the 1988 fire.
Located 6 kilometers from Ozimek, the Jurapark in Krasiejów is an ideal place for small and larger enthusiasts of dinosaurs and prehistory. On its grounds, in addition to
the Paleontological
Pavilionwith fossils of reptiles and amphibians and the reconstruction of the skeleton of the oldest dinosaur ever discovered, the silesaurus, there are also the Science and Human Evolution Park and the Prehistoric Oceanarium. In addition, the site offers an amusement park, a large playground and a lakeside beach.
Particularly noteworthy are "Pizzeria Lavender WOW", offering large pizzas at affordable prices, and "Restaurant JA" with a delicious and extensive menu. A place where you can not only eat well, but also listen to music played live is the restaurant "Museum of Flavors" with regional and Georgian cuisine.
