
Pila is a city belonging to the Greater Poland Voivodeship, located on the border of the Waleckie Lake District and the Krajeńskie Lake District, on the Gwda River. It is more than 100 kilometers from the province's capital, Poznan. Closer to the capital of the neighboring administrative district - Bydgoszcz. Other important urban centers within Pila are: Zlotow, Chodziez, Walcz and Jastrowie. Statistics state that more than 70,000 people live in Pila, which is the seat of Pila County. Mentions of a settlement located on the territory of today's Pila date back to the 14th century. Pila was granted city rights in the first half of the 15th century. The city suffered serious losses during World War II. Suffice it to say that the buildings in the city center had to be rebuilt as much as 90%.
In Pila you can find many interesting monuments related to Stanislaw Staszic. Worth seeing is the house where Staszic was born (there is a commemorative plaque on the wall of the building), his monument and the Stanislaw Staszic City Park with its iron gazebo from 1904. The Stanislaw Staszic Museum and the Stanislaw Staszic District Museum are also dedicated to this figure. The city is also home to the Pila Military Museum. Nature lovers will appreciate the fact that more than half of the city is made up of green areas, and Pila is surrounded on all sides by forest complexes and lakes. Such a location provides unfettered opportunities to practice hiking, water sports and cycling.
Everyone who has had a chance to visit restaurants in Pila at least once knows that you can eat decently here.
