Plock is a charming city steeped in history. Visitors to the city have no reason to complain of boredom. Plock is famous for its numerous monuments - about which in a moment - but also for the Orlen oil company, the Audioriver music festival and an amphitheater. One of the main attractions of Plock is the Tumskie Hill, which offers a beautiful panorama of the Vistula River and the adjacent boulevards. The Hill is home to the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a castle and park. The basilica is famous for its doors covered with bas-reliefs. Many art critics stress that the Plock Doors, in terms of artistry, are not inferior to their Gniezno counterparts. In addition to the door, which is a replica of the Romanesque original found in the Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod the Great, in the basilica it is worth noting the late Renaissance epitaphs and sculptures, Baroque altars and bas-reliefs at the side walls. Under the left tower is a marble sarcophagus, in which rest the kings Boleslaw the Wrymouth and Wladyslaw Herman and 15 Mazovian princes. Next to the temple is the former Benedictine abbey, located within a Gothic castle built in the 14th century, which now houses the Diocesan Museum.
Descending from Tumskie Hill towards the Old Town, we come across the oldest market square in the city - Narutowicz Square. From here we can admire the former bishop's palace - now a court, the 15th century house Under Trumpets and the Zieliński Library. A little farther away, at Malachowski Square, is the oldest Polish high school, available for visiting by appointment. The institution was founded at the end of the 12th century at St. Michael's Collegiate Church. In addition to visiting the school, lovers of museum art should also see the Mazovian Museum, located on Tumska Street, which serves as a pedestrian zone. A stay at the museum is sure to intrigue all fans of Art Nouveau artists. What other attractions does Plock have for visitors? It is obligatory to visit the Old Market Square, where an impressive fountain and the Town Hall await - the square looks great after dark, after switching on the atmospheric lanterns. For enthusiasts of folk art, on the other hand, the Ethnographic Department of the Mazovian Museum awaits. It is housed in a granary located behind St. Bartholomew's Church. The Mariavite monastery - a building from 1913 dripping with neo-Gothic splendor - is also interesting.
The city has prepared several trails for tourists to follow when discovering Plock. These include the Chopin Trail and the Pilgrimage Trail. You should inquire about these and other forms of sightseeing at the Plock Tourist Information Office (PLOT) at Old Market Square 8.
Hand in hand with the rich offer of tourist attractions goes the gastronomic facilities of Plock. The best places to eat are, of course, around the historic center. Among the recommended items on the Plock menu are Karczma pod strzechą, Pizzeria Roma, La Bodega Wine Tapas Bar, Ogniem i Mięsem restaurant, Gospoda restaurant, Gospoda restaurant, Nova Sushi, Boska bo włoska restaurant, and Wieża Ciśnień restaurant.
