Wloclawek is a city in central Poland, located on the Vistula River. It is one of the oldest cities in Poland and is also the historical capital of Kujawy. Statistics indicate that Wloclawek is home to just over 100,000 people. The city can boast centuries of history, as a walk through the center will prove. It is also worth remembering that industry also had an important role in shaping the current character of this locality. In Wloclawek there are thriving enterprises operating in the chemical, food, metal, construction or energy industries.
What can the city boast of? It has as many as 5 museums in its center, where you can see, among other things, an exhibition of faience, or ceramics from the local Wloclawek Faience factory, since 1984. Hand-painted ceramic vessels, the so-called "Wloclawki," are a local tradition. Due to economic changes in the 1990s, the factory stopped producing decorated dishes, but 12 years later the tradition was revived and is now a landmark of the city.
For lovers of walking, the oldest city park in Poland named after Henryk Sienkiewicz may be a treat. We recommend taking a rest here by a small waterfall or the estuary of the Zgłowiączka River to the Vistula. Nearby rises the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In one of its chapels stands the silver Eucharistic Throne, characterized by Baroque splendor that has attracted the eye since 1744.
What is the best way to visit Wloclawek? A good idea for those whose time and health permit it is to take a walk along the Historic Sites Route. The Route, proposed by the City Council, has 21 stops. In addition to the above-mentioned objects, visitors can see, among others, the monument on Freedom Square, Musham's Palace, PTTK water marina, wooden granary - the Black Granary, Bishop's Palace, Vistula River boulevards, tenement houses in the Old Market or the former starost's office building. You can learn more about the Historic Sites Trail and the city's other assets at the local tourist information center at 5 Warszawska St. Tourists are attracted by the varied accommodation and catering facilities. Wloclawek is worth visiting on Friday, when some of the museums are free.
A great advantage of Wloclawek is its location in the central part of the country and the availability of important transportation routes. We are mainly talking about the close proximity of the A1 highway, which connects the north with the south of Poland. Three important national roads - 62, 67 and 91 - also intersect in the city. Wloclawek can also be reached by rail. The train station is located on Okrzei Street, close to the main tourist attractions of Downtown. The PKS Włocławek bus station is also located nearby. The PKS Włocławek timetable offers plenty of intercity and international connections. This convenient and reasonably priced form of transportation can be used by tourists exploring Wloclawek, as well as those setting off from here to work abroad. Due to its central location, Wloclawek is a good interchange.
