Wodzisław Śląski is a town in the Silesian Voivodeship located on the Lesznica River (where it has its beginning). The 50° parallel of latitude at Bogumińska Street also runs through here. Due to the proximity to the Czech border and the location of the town, the mountains of Lysá hora (Silesian-Moravian Beskid), Jasienice, and Praděd are visible to the naked eye in good weather conditions. You can also see Czantoria or Skrzyczne located in the Silesian Beskid.
The market square from 1257 has a square shape with dimensions of 96 by 96 meters, which makes it also one of the largest in Upper Silesia. It is surrounded by tenement houses, some of them are charming old buildings from the 19th century. For lovers of historical monuments there are also- Franciscan Monastery Complex, synagogue and preserved from the early years of Wodzislaw Slaski, a classical castle built by the Dietrichsteins.
The city has a sad occupation history connected with the railroad. The railroad station in Wodzisław Śląski is not only the center of communication between Katowice or Chałupki, but above all it remains a monument to Nazi martyrdom. In January 1945, the Auschwitz Death March ended there. Thirty people were killed at the station building, and up to about 15,000 were killed during the march.
