Balingen is a German district town, in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The city was first mentioned as far back as 863, when Balingen belonged to the Haigerloch County area. As a result of its location on Schweizerstrasse, a very important traffic and trade route, there was a very rapid development of trade in Balingen. Mainly the textile and leather processing industries experienced development while giving impetus to another investment in the city, namely the construction of a railroad line in 1874.

Balingen - a description of the city and tourist attractions

From our bus stop located at the railroad station - Bahnhof you will reach within 10 minutes to the first attraction of the city, which is undoubtedly the Zollern Castle with water tower. It is located in the southeastern part of the old town, and its first parts (the Zoller castle complex) were built not long after the city was founded. A short distance from the castle is the only sulfur fountain in Balingen. Thanks to the presence of sulfur water, the town became known as a health resort and began to attract more and more visitors. There is also a market fountain in the center of town depicting an anonymous knight called Ulrich. It is interesting to note that this is only a copy, and the original made in 1950 stands in the local history museum. Another attraction is the Late Gothic Evangelical Church, which was built at the turn of the 15th century. The building is characterized by a tall, 61-meter tower and a sundial on the wall. Once inside, each tourist will be able to admire the beautiful Baroque organ and the works of the Renaissance artist Simon Schweizer, who came from Balingen.
