Czluchow is a small (13,000 inhabitants) city located in the southern part of Pomeranian Voivodeship. To get to the voivodeship's capital, Gdansk, you have to travel quite a distance of about 150 km. Definitely closer from here is Bydgoszcz (about 90 km), as well as Szczecinek, Pila or Grudziądz. The city is located in the Krajeńskie Lake District, and local residents and visitors to the place can enjoy the proximity of wonderful natural complexes, headed by: Bory Tucholskie National Park, Wdzydze Landscape Park and Drawsko Landscape Park. Such a location determines the profile of tourists who are eager to visit these areas - they are people who crave contact with nature, appreciate fresh air and active recreation. This part of Poland is an excellent place for forest walks, cycling, jogging, Nordic walking, water tourism, fishing and, in season, mushroom picking.
People visiting Człuchów should direct their first steps to the District Tourist Information Point (os. Wazów 1). You can also get more inspiration for sightseeing in the city and the region by using informats (electronic kiosks designed with tourists in mind). The main attraction of Człuchów is the remains of a medieval Teutonic castle. The structure dates back to the 14th century, and its landmark is an octagonal tower 46 meters high. In addition, tourists can admire the moat, dungeons, defensive walls and museum collections inside, as today the castle is the seat of the Regional Museum in Czluchow. The building in its present form is only a substitute for a powerful fortress from the 14th century, consisting of 11 gates and 9 towers (at that time the buildings included: a high castle and three baileys connected by drawbridges). In the Middle Ages, the castle served an important function, as it was located at the crossroads of key trade routes for the Teutonic Knights.
The urban layout of the city center is also associated with the Order. The square-shaped market is a characteristic feature of cities founded under German law. Człuchów's most important religious building is the Church of St. James the Apostle the Elder. This Baroque temple is dated to the mid-17th century. Other architectural landmarks worth noting while strolling through Człuchów include the former manor house on Wojska Polskiego Avenue, townhouses at the market square, the post office building, the former brewery and the town hall. A moment of relaxation during sightseeing can be sought on a bench on Heroes' Square or in Lasek Luizy park.
Tourists visiting this city with their families should direct their steps to the park of attractions at Camp No. 80. Awaiting kids and their guardians here are, among others, a paddling pool, water slides, a rope park, mini golf, inflatables and an Indian village. The city also has an indoor swimming pool, a skate park, numerous sports facilities and a guarded swimming area on Lake Rychnowskie.
No tourist destination could develop without accommodation and catering facilities. This in Człuchów stands at a high level. Tourists can stay overnight in a hotel, boarding house, guest houses, apartments, private rooms and camping. The city also has several catering establishments serving dishes from various cuisines of the world and in different price ranges.
