Jaroslavl - basic information for tourists

Let's move to the east of the country, to one of those places that is still underestimated by most tourists. It is here, about halfway between Rzeszow and the Ukrainian border, that Jaroslavl, a medium-sized city and the seat of the Yaroslavl district government, is located. Other major urban centers in this part of the Subcarpathian province are: Lezajsk, Przemyśl and Lancut. Jaroslaw was granted city rights as early as 1323. In the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries the town was an important trade and craft center. The town owed its mercantile development primarily to its favorable location - at the intersection of trade routes from Silesia to Ruthenia and from Pomerania to Hungary. The place was also famous for the Yaroslavl fairs, which were besieged by sellers and buyers, during which the population in the city increased up to tenfold!

What to see? Attractions in Yaroslavl

Today there is much less interest from tourists, which does not mean that the town has nothing to boast about. The best way to find out what attractions Yaroslavl has to offer its visitors is to ask at the Tourist Information Point located in the local Culture and Promotion Center. The institution is located at the market square, which is the main square of the city. The most recommended cafes and restaurants function here. In the vicinity of the market we can also easily find accommodation facilities of various standards. At the market square there is also a town hall with a neo-Renaissance facade. Its Gothic prototype was built as early as the 15th century, and the building has been rebuilt and expanded many times. Also located at the main square is the Orsettich Tenement House, considered one of the prettiest bourgeois houses on the Vistula River from the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. Today it houses the city's most important museum.

Jaroslavl - level attractions!

Major attractions of Jaroslavl are located underground. That's right! The Underground Tourist Passage, located 6 meters under the townhouses of the market square, opens its doors to visitors. The 11 exhibition halls include expositions on bourgeois cuisine, ceramics, hunting, the history of the city and the aforementioned fairs. The passage is 186 meters long, and in addition to exhibitions we will find there spectacular multimedia installations, which should interest small tourists. Slightly shorter is the second Underground Tourist Route named after Professor Feliks Zalewski. The entrance to it is located in the Rydzikowa tenement house.

Other city monuments have religious roots. We are talking about the Church of the Virgin Mary, the Collegiate Church and the monastery of the Benedictine Sisters.

Public transportation within the city is operated by the MZK company, and connections to other towns in the region are provided by PKS Jaroslaw. You can cover longer distances aboard Sindbad coaches. Our bus stop is located at the new PKS station, from where most Jaroslaw buses depart. It's easy to reach the train station from here, as well as historical buildings.
