Leszno -a city in Poland, in the Wielkopolska voivodship. Leszno is located between Poznan and Wroclaw, and also lies near Zielona Gora in Lubuskie Voivodship. The city has a population of about 65,000.
Leszno was first mentioned in the 14th century, and was granted city rights in 1547.
The city's location is undoubtedly very attractive. Extensive terrain, long distances from civilian airports, long distances from populated cities have caused the very airport in Leszno to repeatedly host the best glider pilots in the world. It is interesting to note that the Gliding World Championship was held as early as 1958, with Jozef Cyrankiewicz himself participating in the opening ceremony.
For the city and its residents, speedway racing is undoubtedly important. It is here, in the speedway arena, that some of the best racers in Poland - riders of the Leszno Union - race. It is the rivalry with other established speedway clubs that electrifies the city's residents. The local club, along with clubs from Gorzow, Lublin or Zielona Gora, is one of the best in the country.
For strollers, we recommend the market square, of course. On its square stands a beautiful, distinctive town hall.
