
Nowa Sól - a city located in Lubuskie Voivodeship in the Novosol district. It has a population of about 39,000 - in this respect it is the third urban center in Lubuskie province. It is separated from the most important cities in this administrative region by: 27 km from Zielona Góra and 132 km from Gorzow Wielkopolski. From the east, the city is surrounded by the Oder River. Other major urban centers in the vicinity of Nowa Sól include Glogow, Lubin, Leszno, Zagan and Zary. The origins of the town, which was formed as a result of urbanization changes from the merger of local settlements, date back to the 16th century.Nowa Sól received its city rights in 1743.The town derives its name from the occupation of salt purification, which was an important branch of local industry from 1553 until the Thirty Years' War.
Visitors to Nowa Sól should especially visit Dwarf Park, which is located on Liberty Avenue. Entering the park, one will spot Solus. He is a 5-meter tall dwarf, who in 2009 made it into the Guinness Book of World Records in the category of tallest garden gnomes in the world. Next to him stands his spouse - Lusia. This charming couple is not the only attraction of the park. Walking further, we can come across a 7-meter tall statue of a Grizzly bear. Another tourist attraction in Nowa Sol, located outdoors, is the Physics Park. It covers as much as 4 hectares, making it the largest facility of its kind in the region. The Physics Park features 46 educational devices, explaining selected laws and phenomena of science.
