.Tomaszow Lubelski - Tourist Attractions and History of the CityThe origins of
this city date back to the late 16th century, at which time it was founded by Chancellor Jan Zamojski and named after the family coat of arms - Jelitow. In 1613, however, it was decided to rename the town to Tomaszow in honor of Jan Zamojski's son, Tomasz. Nowadays, going to Tomaszow Lubelski we can admire many tourist attractions. Izba Pamięci Terroru Komunistycznego - the place intrigues with a cool, heavy atmosphere evoking the memory of the atrocities that took place during the communist period. The museum recreates the interrogation room, profiles of torturers and prisoners. This museum is open from Monday to Friday and admission is free. Regional Museum named after Janusz Peter-The museum was established in 1962 and was founded by a local doctor, Jan Peter, who decided to organize an exhibition of private collections in the hospital where he worked. When a few years later his collections were taken away from him by the state, the location of the museum changed several times, to finally be located on the current Zamojska Street. In the museum we can admire archaeological and ethnographic exhibitions. Reserve of Inanimate Nature "Piekielko"-in the nature reserve located near the city, geology lovers can see erratic boulders left here by the ice sheet and other geological outcrops measuring up to 10 meters high. The reserve gets its name from legends about the origin of the boulders. One of them tells of a girl who refused the hand of the devil disguised as a farmhand. Lucifer decided to take revenge and covered the church with boulders when she was getting married to her chosen . Just as he was about to carry out his revenge, a hen unexpectedly crowed. The devil lost the power of hell and the boulders flew into the field. To this day, none of the locals take the stone from there, as the superstition persists that it brings bad luck. There are also rumors that the reserve is haunted at noon and midnight.
