Volkovysk - the city of wolves

This city, which lies closer to Bialystok than Grodno, is a unique cultural mix. That's because Lithuanians, Ukrainians, Jews, Tatars, Kalmyks, Azerbaijanis and Poles live here side by side. The Volkovysk region, according to many sources, is one of the largest concentrations of Polish people. Poles, just after Belarusians, make up more than 50% of the total population. Including the other national groups, the Volkov region now has a population of about 80,000 and is counted among the pearls of Old Church construction in this part of the country.

It features the ruins of a castle dating back to the 14th century. It is likely that the castle was built by Swedish soldiers around the burial site of their commander.
