Ząbkowice Ślą skie is a beautiful historic town located in Lower Silesia Province, in the Sudeten Foreland, in a basin known as the Ząbkowice Depression, on the left bank of the Budzówka River, west of Ziębice and north of Kłodzko.

The city boasts interesting architectural monuments. There is the unique Leaning Tower - one of several in Poland, which is now a vantage point, the magnificent ruins of a Renaissance castle or the beautiful Town Hall with its tall, soaring tower towering over the Market Square and the Old Town. There are also the medieval city walls and the equally old St. Anne's Church.

Also intriguing are some dark events from the history of Ząbkowice Śląskie that are mentioned in Frankenstein's Laboratory. This is because not everyone knows that Ząbkowice Śląskie was called "Frankenstein" until 1945. In 1606, the town was struck by the plague and nearly 2,000 residents died out. It didn't take long for someone to link the attack of the disease to the activities of the Ząbkowice gravediggers. Soon containers of poisonous powder were found in the suspects' apartments. After being tortured, the gravediggers testified that they had spilled the prepared poison in their homes, which resulted in so many people dying. The plague died out after a few months, but it was still talked about for a long time. Over time, a legend arose about a terrible monster that allegedly caused the plague in Ząbkowice. This monster was named Frankenstein after the town where this dark story took place.

Wonderful architecture and a mysterious past, however, are only part of the attractions that Ząbkowice Śląskie has to offer. For the whole is complemented by wonderful cultural events. The first is the "Folk Fiesta" held every year in early July. The Fiesta usually lasts a few days, and the venue is the ruins of a castle, giving it an unusual atmosphere.
