
Zhytomyr is a city of over 250,000 people located on the Teterev River in Ukraine. It was founded in 884 and is one of the oldest cities in Ukraine in terms of history and culture. The city has a Polish cemetery, one of the largest outside the Polish border, where the parents of Ignacy Paderewski and the family of Stanislaw Moniuszko, among others, are buried. According to many sources, Zhytomyr is also the largest concentration of citizens with Polish ancestry in Ukraine.
While in Zhytomyr, it is worth visiting the only cosmonautics museum in Ukraine, named after the famous rocket and space systems designer Sergey Korolov. It is Korolov who is considered the "father" of Soviet cosmonautics and was responsible for the first flight of a man into space, which took place in 1961 - this cosmonaut was Yuri Gagarin

known to all.
In Zhytomyr every tourist can also see the St. Sophia Cathedral, built in 1748, the Church of St. John of Dukla or the Baptist Church, which used to be an Evangelical temple. There are also many other places worth visiting such as the current Philharmonic building, which was built in 1808 and was the famous Zhytomyr Theater, the water tower, which dates back to 1898, or the bishop's palace, which was built in the first half of the 19th century.
Looking at the myriad of tourist attractions, Zhytomyr is undoubtedly a city worth visiting. Despite the fact that the main branches of the city are metallurgical and machine-building industries walking around the city you will find a large number of monuments, museums or charming places which is undoubtedly such as the historic Castle Hill.
