Oshmyanya (today: Ashmiany) is a city in the northeastern part of Belarus,located in the Vitebsk region. It is located on the Oshmyana River, hence its name. The city has a rich history, dating back to the Middle Ages.

History of Oshmiana: In the Middle Ages, Oshmiana was an important trade center. In the 14th century it became part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and later of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Over the years, the city grew in importance as an administrative and commercial center. In the 19th century, like many other cities in the Belarusian lands, it came under the rule of the Russian Empire.

Monuments and attractions: Although Oshmyany is not a large city, it has several interesting monuments, including the 19th century St. Nicholas Church and the ruins of a castle that bear witness to ancient times.
