ILAWA

Ilawa - PKS - Buses and buses - Monuments and attractions

Ilawa is a beautifully located city in the Warmian-Masurian province. It is located on one of the largest lakes in Poland - Jeziorak Lake, surrounded by the Iława Lake District Landscape Park. It is inhabited by just over 30,000 people. Despite this, Ilawa is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region.

What attractions does Ilawa offer? Lovers of active recreation on the water and in nature will not be bored here. Besides, you will find interesting buildings, several monuments and places worth exploring. The oldest building in the city is the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, dating back to the early 14th century. Years ago, inextricably linked to it were the city walls, which are only fragmentarily preserved to this day. Also worth seeing is the Church of St. John the Theologian, located in the more than a century-old building of the city gasworks. Its interiors and exterior facade delight with colorful icons. An interesting monument is the neo-Gothic Ilawa Town Hall and the Baroque sculptures located on Niepodległości Street. They depict Roman deities: Juno, Hercules, Jupiter and Medusa.

Of course, the city's biggest attraction is Lake Jeziorak and the associated opportunities for active leisure and recreation. In addition, in the small town of Kurzętnik, near Ilawa, there is a ski resort called Kurza Gora, which means that Ilawa and its environs may also be of interest to winter sports enthusiasts.

Lying in the west of Germany in Rhineland-Palatinate, Koblenz is a city of almost 115,000 people known for its so-called German Horn (Deutsches Eck). It is also one of the oldest German cities - its history dates back to antiquity. Over the centuries it has been conquered several times and passed under the rule of various states. It is where Clement von Metternich, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing or Thomas Anders were born.

The most interesting sights in the city are the so-called "German Horn" with the Ehrenbreitstein fortress, the Basilica of St. Kastor or Stolzenfels Castle. Koblenz is worth a visit especially in summer. On August 10, on the banks of the Rhine, as part of the "Rhine in Flames" festival, many boats sail along the river, on board of which there are fire shows pompously ending with a large fireworks display over the Ehrenbreitstein fortress. Koblenz is also known for its good wines. The city's most famous place to taste wine and learn more about the wine-making process is the Deinhard Wine Museum.
