Nowogard is a town of over 17,000 people located in northern Poland, 65 kilometers northeast of Szczecin. It was first mentioned in 1268. Nowogard's biggest tourist attraction is Nowogard Lake, located in the very center of the town, an ideal place for rest and recreation. There are also valuable monuments in the city - Nowogard once had a castle, but there is not much left to see of it now, mainly foundations, casemates, a chapel or moat now belonging to a penitentiary. Traces of the city's splendor can be seen around the lake, where remnants of the city walls can be seen. While in Nowogard, it is worth visiting the Gothic 14th-century Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with a well-preserved Renaissance altarpiece with several scenes from the life of Christ.
