ROSENHEIM
Rosenheim is a charming Bavarian town with a population of 60,000. Its history dates back to 1232, but there was already a Roman settlement in the area more than a thousand years earlier. Rosenheim is famous as a commercial center, but it is also a great base for nearby attractions, nearby Lake Chiemsee and the mountains. Slightly farther northwest is Munich, and not far to the south is the border with Austria.
Within the city itself, most attractions can be reached on foot. A visit to Rosenheim should start with the old town with its market square, the parish church of St. Nicholas located there and the only surviving Mittertor city gate. It houses a museum dedicated to the history of this Bavarian city. A beautiful spot on the city map is the Rieder flower garden, which specializes in herbs and other medicinal plants. On the other hand, for those thirsty for knowledge, an interesting place to visit will be Lokschuppen.
