In addition to its beautiful location, it also boasts a long history and an exceptional collection of historical monuments. Trier is one of the oldest, if not the oldest city in Germany. Its origins date back to Roman times - it was founded around 16 BC. From this period quite a few objects have survived, which today attract many tourists here. The most interesting of these are the remains of an amphitheater from the 1st century AD, thermae, a Roman bridge over the Moselle River or the Porta Nigra gate, which is today the main symbol of the city.
Trier, or Trier in German, are monuments from later times as well. To see them, it's especially worth a trip to the local market square. There are beautiful medieval temples here - the Romanesque St. Peter's Cathedral and the Gothic St. Mary's Church, as well as many beautiful Renaissance and Baroque townhouses. In the nearby area you can visit the Karl Marx House, which houses a museum dedicated to his life and ideology.

The airport closest to Trier is in Luxembourg, another airport from where you can get here is Frankfurt-Hahn. On the surface, Rybnik appears to be a small city with little tourist attraction. However, it should be emphasized that it has a rich history and, what follows, a large number of monuments. This is because it first fell into the hands of the Germans, then the Czechs, and finally was incorporated into Poland. Rybnik was founded as a fishing settlement, and a century later it was transformed into a city. Today, in addition to historical and cultural monuments, Rybnik also has one of the most extensive networks of bicycle paths in Poland.
Rybnik - why and how to get to Rybnik?
You can get to or from Rybnik by bus. Buses from Rybnik leave from the PKS station, located at 6 Budowlanych St. From there, it is a stone's throw to the downtown area, the market square or the Basilica. However, Rybnik has much more to offer. For there is a castle within the city, and on the outskirts, a lagoon is available to residents.
Fans of more industrial attractions will certainly be interested in the historic Ignacy Mine. On its grounds, visitors will find a lookout tower, a carpentry shop, two engine houses or steam pits. The mine itself is one of the oldest in the entire region, so it's worth putting on your list of things to see.
And when you've had enough of sightseeing, be sure to get on your bike and take a ride on one of the bike paths that stretch for another three hundred kilometers within Rybnik.
