BERN
Bern is located in the central part of Switzerland. It is inhabited by 130,000 people. It is often said that the city is the Swiss capital, which is not quite true. Bern only has the status of a federal city, and Switzerland is a confederation of cantons and has no established capital. Instead, the authorities administering the state reside in Bern.
The symbol of the city and one of its most important monuments is the late Gothic cathedral - the largest church in Bern, as well as in all of Switzerland.
