Cieszyn - a city divided by the Olza river.
It is one of the oldest towns in Silesia, in 2010 it celebrated the 1200th anniversary of its foundation and is an important historical point on the map of Poland. It is a place of mingling cultures, religions, and nationalities, divided between two countries by the Olza River.
Cieszyn is an important center of electrical machinery industry. It is also home to the Olza Cieszyn sweets factory (now part of Mondelēz International), where the famous Prince Polo wafers are made, the taste of which is known to every Pole, and the longest-operating Castle Brewery in Poland. Those interested in the production process, can visit the brewery, and finish the visit with a pint of cold beverage. The brewery can be reached in just a few minutes from our bus stop at the PKN Orlen station on Filasiewicza street in Cieszyn.
Your tour of the city should start in the Old Town, where the narrow streets are lined with atmospheric cafes and bars, and the architecture is further enhanced by numerous churches of various faiths and the Adam Mickiewicz theater. From here you will quickly get to the heart of the city, which is Market Square, surrounded by historic buildings in Baroque-Classical style, in the middle of which was built in the eighteenth century well with a statue of St. Florian.
What else does Cieszyn have to offer? Definitely worth a visit is the Rotunda, one of the oldest Christian churches in Poland, under the patronage of saints Martin and Wenceslas, and its image we often carry with us... in our wallet - the building is immortalized on the twenty-zloty banknote. Like the Piast Tower, it is part of Cieszyn Castle Hill, surrounded by the city park, which is a perfect place for relaxing strolls.
Cieszyn is also a place of museums - in addition to visiting the above-mentioned Brewery, tourists will be welcomed by the Museum of Printing, with machines preserved in excellent condition, or the oldest museum in the country, Museum of Cieszyn Silesia, where you can learn about the history of the region.
