Cieszyn - city divided by the Olza River.
It is one of the oldest towns in the Silesian Voivodeship, celebrated its 1200th anniversary in 2010 and is an important historical point on the map of Poland. It is a place of mingling cultures, religions, nationalities, divided between two countries by the Olza River.
Cieszyn is an important center of electro-mechanical industry. It is also home to the Olza Cieszyn candy factory (now part of the Mondelēz International concern), where the famous Prince Polo wafers are made, the taste of which is probably known to every Pole, and the longest-operating Castle Brewery in Poland. Those interested in the production process can tour the brewery, and crown their visit with a pint of cold beverage. What is important to note, you can reach it in just a dozen minutes from our bus stop at the PKN Orlen Station on Filasiewicza Street in Cieszyn.
Start your tour of the city from the Old Town, where the narrow streets hide atmospheric cafes and bars, and the architecture is further enriched by numerous temples of various faiths or the Adam Mickiewicz Theater. From here you will quickly get to the heart of the city, i.e. the Market Square, surrounded by historic houses in the Baroque-Classical style, in the middle of which a well with a statue of St. Florian was erected in the 18th century.
What else does Cieszyn have to offer us? It's certainly worth a visit to see the Rotunda, one of the oldest Christian churches in Poland, which is patronized by Saints Martin and Wenceslas, and its image we often carry with us... in our wallets - the building has been immortalized on a twenty-zloty banknote. Like the Piast Tower, it is part of Cieszyn's Castle Hill, surrounded by the city park, which is a perfect place for relaxing strolls.
Cieszyn is also home to museums - in addition to visiting the aforementioned Brewery, tourists will be welcomed by the Museum of Printing, with machines preserved in excellent condition, or the oldest in the country Museum of Cieszyn Silesia, where we will learn about the history of the region.
