Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden and also the largest seaport in all of Scandinavia. It was founded in the early 17th century at the behest of King Gustav II Adolphus by Dutch architects, with the main intention of making Sweden independent of the customs duties levied by Denmark in the Danish Straits.
