Few know, however, that Ghent (Gent) is a city more populous than Brussels by more than 80,000, with more than 260,000 living in this magnificent city. (January 2020 data). It ranks second only to Antwerp, the largest city in Belgium. It is estimated that between the 12th and 15th centuries Ghent was the largest city, just after Paris.

Ghent is located in the northwestern part of Belgium and has access all the way to the North Sea via the Leie River. Ghent is the capital of the province of East Flanders. It is the largest university center in Belgium, with about 28,000 students at the university alone. Ghent is a beautiful city, very picturesque, we encourage you to visit by our bus. The biggest attraction is the Cathedral of St. Bavo, dating from the 13th-14th centuries( the site of the baptism of King Charles V Habsburg of Spain). The cathedral can be reached on foot from our bus stop at Daamport Station. We will reach the aforementioned cathedral on foot in about 15 minutes, wonderful right?

Inside you will find the magnificent Ghent Altarpiece, known as the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb by the brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck. From there, it's just a few steps to the observation tower- known as the Belffroi Tower, from where we can enjoy a view of the entire city. Further on, we can walk to St. Nicholas Church, distinguished by its monumental Gothic-Romanesque structure. There is much to admire, Ghent is considered a clean city, crisscrossed by water canals, restored townhouses add to the charm for strollers. For tired strollers we recommend Waterzoi, which is Ghent's fish soup, Stoverij-beer stew sipped with any of the local beers.
