The city lies on the Slupia River, on the Slupsk Plain, which is a mesoregion of the Koszalin Coast. Slupsk is 18 km from the sea, which is certainly an advantage. Slupsk was the seat of Slupsk province until 1998.
The city boasts a large number of monuments and attractions. Among them are: the Gothic gates, one of the oldest mills in Poland, a museum in the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes or the largest collection of Witkacy's artwork in Poland.
The location of the city's attractions and its size allow you to explore Slupsk on foot. You can start your sightseeing at the Museum of Central Pomerania, which consists of two (separately ticketed) establishments: a historical museum in the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes and an ethnographic exhibition in the Castle Mill, an art gallery with works by Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz in the restored White Spitzer.
The city's biggest attraction, the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes, was built in 1507 in Gothic style. In 1580-1587 it was rebuilt into a two-story Renaissance-style building with large windows and an ornate tower. It is located adjacent to the Slupia River. There is a castle mill nearby. In the 16th and 17th centuries the castle was the residence of the Pomeranian princes of the Gryfit dynasty. After World War II, the castle was renovated, including the rebuilding of the tower head. Currently, the castle is the headquarters of the Museum of Central Pomerania in Slupsk. In the exhibition halls you can see objects related to the history of Pomerania and the Griffin dynasty, as well as memorabilia related to the history of Slupsk. Visiting the castle in the summer season, we can climb the castle tower, from the top of which there is a view of the surrounding area. The castle also displayed the world's largest collection of works by Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz - Witkacy - until 2017.
Next, you can take a guided tour of the town hall. During the tour, you enter the observation deck, which offers a view of the city and the surrounding area.
