The city is located in the Lubelskie province. Currently, there is a widely developed transport and food industry here. The origins of this city date back to the late 16th century, when it was founded by Chancellor Jan Zamojski and named after the family coat of arms- Jelitow. In 1613, however, it was decided to rename the town to Tomaszow- in honor of Jan Zamojski's son Tomasz.
