BOLZANO
Bolzano is located in northern Italy on the border with Austria in the Trentino-Alto Adige region on the Isarco (Eisack) River. Throughout its history, the city has alternated between Austrian, German and Italian rule. Since 1969, Bolzano and the entire region have been autonomous. The city is a major tourist and winter sports center, and its biggest attraction is the famous Ötzi man, a more than 5,000-year-old man preserved in ice that was found near Bolzano.
The city is very charming and offers many interesting attractions. The most popular is, of course, provided by the Archaeological Museum of South Tyrol, where the mummy of the ice man, Ötzi, has been made available for viewing. In addition, take a stroll through the old town, see the medieval frescoes in the monumental Cathedral of the Assumption, visit the nearby Roncolo Castle (Runkelstein), or take the oldest cable car to the Polbis peaks, from where you can beautifully see the entire area. Bolzano's annual Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition is also an important attraction.
Getting to Bolzano
Bolzano is best reached by car or long-distance bus. It is not possible to get to this city by direct flight from Poland. However, planes to Bolzano fly from major Italian cities. Szczecin is a port city with a long history. It has been in many hands over the years. It was annexed to Poland after World War II. The city combines modernity and historical monuments. Many of them, unfortunately, suffered during wartime bombings and have only relatively recently been restored.
How to get to Stettin? Buses and coaches going to and from Szczecin
Although it is not located by the sea, it is crossed by the Oder River. The city is often called a floating garden due to its multitude of green areas, squares, parks and surrounding forests, as well as the Oder's backwaters and lakes. The largest of the surrounding lakes is Dabie - a popular place to relax and practice water sports. It is also worth seeing Głębokie Lake or Szmaragdowe Lake, an artificial reservoir located in one of Szczecin's housing estates characterized by greenish colored water.
Being in Szczecin, it is impossible not to go to the area of the famous Chrobry Embankment, from which you can admire the view of the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle or St. James' Cathedral, as well as the nearby river island of Lasztownia with another symbol of the city, the "Dźwigozaurami". - old harbor cranes, which, illuminated after dark, look exceptionally beautiful, resembling prehistoric creatures in construction.
In Szczecin you will also find a modern philharmonic building and the oldest cinema in the world, the Pioneer, operating continuously since 1907.
You can get to the city by your own transportation, fly to Szczecin Goleniow Airport from Poland's largest cities, or take numerous train or bus connections. Several train stations are located in Szczecin, and you will also find a bus station right next to the Szczecin Main railroad station.
